WASHINGTON (CIRCA) â€" President Donald Trump responded to the news that a sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was proven false by challenging Democrats in a tweet.

The accuser Trump refers to is not Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that Brett Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers. An anonymous accuser confessed this week that she had lied about being the "Jane Doe" who claimed in a letter to the Judiciary Committee that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her.< br/>

A detailed letter from Sen. Chuck Grassley addressed to the FBI and attorney general explains the circumstances of the accusation. The committee received a letter from a Jane Doe from California, stating that Justice Kavanaugh and a friend had raped her in the back of a vehicle. There were no other details but the "Committee staff quickly began investigating the claims as part of the broader investigation."

The following week, Grassley says that the committee received an email from a Ms. Judy Munro-Leighton claiming to be the Jane Doe. A further investigation revealed that she was a left-wing activist, far older than Kavanaugh and lived in Kentucky. Munro-Leighton confessed this week to investigators that she was not the Jane Doe who sent the letter. When questioned, she admitted it was a "ploy" for "attention." The true identity of the accuser remains unknown.

President Trump voiced his support of Justice Kavanaugh throughout his hearing regarding sexual assault allegations, believing the accusations to be false.

"It's a very scary time for young men in America," Trump has said about false sex crime accusations.

The National Sexual Violence Resource Center reports that only between 2 and 7 percent of sexual assault reports are falsified and the majority of sexual assaults in America are never reported at all.
