Have you mailed your ballot? Portland-area voters face Thursday deadline

Oregon's general election ballot deadline is a week from today. If you haven't yet mailed your ballot, Thursday is the last day to safely do so in Multnomah County, election officials say.

It can take longer in other areas of the state.

"We tell voters to make a plan and return as soon as possible," Oregon elections director Steve Trout wrote in an email Tuesday. "We don't give a date at the state but leave that to the counties based on their geography and experience."

Ballots must be received by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, and postmarks do not count. The U.S. Postal Service takes two to five days to deliver most mail, Trout has previously said.

Voters have a chance to decide on issues including Oregon's next governor, city councilors, state and federal lawmakers, as well as ballot measures on taxes, the sanctuary state law and public funding for abortions.

Oregon voters can turn in ballots at drop sites located across the state, often at local government buildings. To find your closest ballot drop site, visit the Oregon Secretary of State's website.
