Another case of measles has been confirmed in the Portland area â€" though authorities say it is unrelated to previous cases in Multnomah County in June and July.

Laboratory testing confirms that the person with measles traveled in and around Portland and Beaverton between July 30 and Aug. 6.

Measles is highly contagious and usually spreads via coughing and sneezing.

“The bad news is that measles is a serious disease, the good news is that if you’ve been vaccinated you’re well p rotected,” said Dr. Paul Cieslak, a medical director at the Oregon Health Authority. “This is the second time this summer that someone arrived in the Portland area sick with measles.”
