Donald Trump tweets support for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' anthem stance: 'Way to go Jerry'CLOSE

SportsPulse: From Oxnard, NFL insider Jarrett Bell reacts to Jerry Jones stating that all his players are required to stand during the national anthem.
President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter on Friday that he supports Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his stated policy that Cowboys players must stand on the field during the pregame rendition of the national anthem.
"Way to go Jerry," Trump wrote on Twitter. "This is what the league should do!"
Trump's tweet came less than 48 hours after Jones said in a press conference that, regardless of the league's national-anthem policy, the Cowboys will require their players to "stand during the anthem, toe on the line."
On Thursday, Jones' son, executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones, went one step further, insinuating in a radio interview that the team's players will stand "if they want to be a Dallas Cowboy" â" insinuating that those who don't stand will be cut.
Trump has continued to hammer away at the league and its owners on the national-anthem issue, repeatedly claiming that players who kneel during The Star-Spangled Banner are being disrespectful of the military. Jones on Wednesday described Trump's involvement as "problematic" and "unprecedented."
Players who have demonstrated during the anthem, beginning with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, have generally described their actions as a means of protesting police brutality and racial inequality. Several protesting players hav e since formed the Players' Coalition and become heavily involved in social-justice causes.

The protests â" and repeated comments from Trump â" have created a dilemma for the NFL, which announced a new national-anthem policy earlier this summer that would require players to stand during the anthem if on the field but also give them the option to remain in the locker room.
The NFLPA, which was not consulted before the policy was implemented, has pushed back against the new policy, and the two sides have recently put the policy on pause while working toward a long-term solution.
