A daring hate-filled vandal crept into a historic Brooklyn synagogue where he wrote several anti-Semitic messages to congregants, including, âDie Jew rats, we are here!â police said Friday.
The graffiti was found in the hallways and the stairwells of the Union Temple on Eastern Parkway at about 8 p.m. Thursday, cops said.
AdvertisementThe discovery of the hate speech was so alarming that an event scheduled at the synagogue by âBroad Cityâ star Ilana Glazer was cancelled out of an abundance of caution.
Glazer was expected to interview local political candidates, but guests ended up waiting for 45 minutes before she cancelled the event.
âShe shared that the Brooklyn synagogue, where the event was scheduled to take place, was vandalized with anti-Semitic slurs and other hateful words two hours before th e talks were to begin,â attendee Katheryn Gonzalez posted on Facebook. âAs such, she didnât feel comfortable ushering 200 people into the enclosed space.â
An employee at the Prospect Heights synagogue immediately alerted police after finding the graffiti on the first, third and fourth floors.
The graffiti was written in black marker and read âHitler,â âJews better be readyâ and âDie Jew rats, we are here!â police sources said.
There were also drawings of the Puerto Rican flag and the words âFree PRâ cops said.
No arrests have been made. Cops were reviewing surveillance footage to identify a suspect.
The graffiti was found a day after swastikas and the N-word were found scrawled outside a Brooklyn Heights home and nearly a week after 11 people were murdered at a Pittsburgh synagogue.
