Volusia deputies arrested a 15-year-old boy early Saturday after they discovered his mother buried underneath a fire pit at a nearby church, according to a spokesman.
Deputies said Gregory Logan Ramos admitted to strangling his mother, Gail Cleavenger, at their home in the 30 block of Alicante Road late Thursday, according Sheriffâs Office spokesman Andrew Gant.
After taking the womanâs body in a wheelbarrow to River City Church in the 200 block of E. Highbanks Road and burying her, deputies said the teen and his two friends staged his home to appear as if it had been burglarized.
Ramos initially told deputies he came home from school and his mother was missing and her car was still running. Electronics and a rifle were missing from the home, Gant said in an email.
Deputies found the 46-year-old woman at the church and the items reported stolen from the home buried at another location, they said. Deputies also found a shovel and broom âused to bury Cleavenger and straighten up the scene around the fire pit,â Gant said.
Ramosâ two friends, both 17, are also facing charges for their roles in the incident.
