Don't travel to Canada with pot and other advice now that pot is legal thereThe biggest marijuana news of the week is that itâs now legal in Canada.
The country's new federal cannabis act means adults may possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis and households in most provinces will be allowed to grow up to four plants.
But some things won't change, like Canada's border rules.
The Canadian government website reminds travelers that it's illegal to take cannabis or products that contain cannabis into the country. Doing so, it says, "can result in serious criminal penalties."
Travelers from Washington and Oregon, take note: "This is the case even if you are traveling from places that have legalized or decriminalized cannabis."
What about traveling with medical marijuana? Also a no no.
Canadian authorities also remind tourists and travelers that they canât leave the country with cannabis either, even if youâre going to a place where the product is legal.
One more thing worth noting: The legal age to buy marijuana in Canada is 18 in Quebec and Alberta and 19 in the rest of the country, according to CNN.
