We had heard rumblings that Meghan Markle was going to be making a solo trip to Canada last week, and we now have more details about what the Duchess of Sussex was up to when she returned to the country where she l ived part-time for seven years while filming Suits.
According to a report from ABC News, Meghan flew commercial (!) for a three-day visit to the city, where she stayed with her best friend and de-facto royal-wedding maid of honor Jessica Mulroney (and her husband, Ben, and their three children).
“Meghan spent three days holed up at Jessica Mulroney and her husband Ben’s home in Toronto,†ABC News royal correspondent Omid Scobie reported, explaining they “spent their days catching up, cooking together and, of course, playing with Jessica’s children, who love their ‘Auntie Meg.’†(Jessica’s 7-year-old sons, Brian and John, made a splash on the day of the wedding, when they gleefully carried the train of Meghan’s dress into Windsor Castle for her ceremony.)
Per the ABC report, Meghan also met up with “a few other girlfriends†over the trip. (It is unclear if she saw her dog Bogart, whom she left behind when she made the move to Londonâ€"if anyone has any Bogart intel, by the way, please let us know.) And yes there was a night out on the town, as well: “There was one evening when Meghan and Jessica secretly headed out into the town to meet some of Meghan’s old, good friends,†says the report. (You just know one of these friends couldn’t help themselves after a few glasses of wine, and just burst out with a “So what’s the Queen really like?â€â€"esque query.)
Perhaps the most fun detail about Meghan’s trip comes courtesy of outlet Royal Central, who claims to have spoken with one o f the passengers on the commercial flight Meghan was on. “She was dressed in skinny black jeans, a black cashmere sweater, black ballerina flats, and a black baseball cap pulled down over her face,†per the Royal Central report, which sounds very much like the Meghan we know. According to the source, she reportedly had two secret-service members with her, but “it was all very low key.†And, wait for it, Meghan spent her flight in decidedly delightful fashion: “Meghan had one glass of champagne before settling down to watch Book Club. She seemed very relaxed and sipped on peppermint tea during the journey.â€
Honestly they should re-release Book Club in theaters just so they can run a campaign around this sighting. Book Club: Now Duchess Endorsed!
