The Chicago Bears will battle the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4 this season, the same week that Jameis Winston is scheduled to return from suspension.
The popular assumption is that Winston will make his season debut against the Bears, but according to Tampa Bay coach Dirk Koetter, it's too soon to say for sure.
“Week Four is a long ways away," Koetter said Thursday. "So, you know, let’s worry about Week Four in Week Four. Right now, let’s worry about preseason and getting ready for the Saints.â€
This is pretty surprising, considering Week 4 isn't that far away and if Winston is supposed to be the team's franchise quarterback, there shouldn't be any hesitation to confirm his status as the team's starter upon his return.
Winston didn't take the expected next step in his development last season, and now with the off-fie ld distractions, has created questions about whether he's the long-term answer under center for the Buccaneers.
Whether he'll be the guy under center against the Bears is something we'll just have to wait to find out.
